Result Interpretation

Positive (+): A colored line appears in the control line region (C) and a colored line appears in test line region (T). (*NOTE: The intensity of the color in the test line region will vary depending on the concentration of N antigen of SARS-CoV-2 in the specimen. Therefore, any shade of color in the test line region should be considered positive.)

Negative (-): A colored line appears in the control line region (C) and no line appears in test line region (T)

Invalid: No line appears in control line region(C). Insufficient buffer volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for control line failure. Review the procedure and repeat the procedure with a new test device. If the problem persists, discontinue using the test kit immediately and contact your local distributor.

FAQ

Q: What do test results appear as?

A: Results from Safecare kits are displayed in the test cassette's window, which features both a control line and a test line, marked C and T in that order. The included test instructions offer examples of how results may look.

Q: What do I do if I get a positive result?

A: A positive result signals that SARS-CoV-2 antigens are present in your submitted specimen. You are required to isolate at home and undergo a PCR test at a lab or testing location as soon as possible to confirm whether you have COVID-19. Reach out to your state or territory health department to learn about quarantine guidelines while waiting for your PCR result and afterward.

Q: What do I do if I get a negative result?

A: A negative result suggests it is less probable that you have COVID-19, or the viral load is too low for the test to detect. The test may produce a false negative (inaccurate result) in some people with COVID-19. If you suspect infection, retake the test after 1–2 days, as the coronavirus may not be detectable in all stages of infection.
Even with a negative result, you must still follow all public health advice to limit the spread of COVID-19. If you feel unwell or have symptoms, get a PCR test at a testing site promptly to confirm you do not have COVID-19.

Q: What do I do if I get an "invalid" result?

A: Along with positive and negative outcomes, a test might yield an "invalid" result, meaning it did not function correctly. If this happens, discard the test and either conduct a new test or get a lab PCR test at a local testing site.

Q: Why do the lines vary in color and intensity?

A: The color and strength of the lines do not affect how the result is interpreted. Even a faint second line (marked T o n the test cassette) counts as a positive result.
