Urinalysis is a fundamental diagnostic screening tool. Abnormal levels of specific substances in urine can be early indicators of various health issues:

1

Glucose & Ketones: Associated with diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

2

Protein: Can indicate kidney disease or damage (proteinuria).

3

Blood: Suggests infection, kidney stones, trauma, or other renal conditions.

4

Leukocytes & Nitrite: Key markers for bacterial urinary tract infections (UTIs).

5

Bilirubin & Urobilinogen: Point to potential liver dysfunction or hemolytic diseases.

6

pH & Specific Gravity: Provide information on kidney's concentrating ability and overall metabolic state.

7

Ascorbic Acid: While not a disease marker, high levels can interfere with the accuracy of other tests.

FAQ

Q: Can this test diagnose a specific disease?

A: No. This test provides preliminary screening results only. It is designed to detect abnormalities that may indicate a health issue. Any unexpected or positive result must be confirmed by a healthcare professional using more specific diagnostic methods.

Q: What can affect the accuracy of the test?

A: Several factors can interfere:

  • High Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) can lower the sensitivity for Blood, Glucose, and Nitrite.
  • Contaminants like chlorhexidine (in some cleansers) can affect Protein and other results.
  • Specimen Age: Urine should be tested immediately. Prolonged storage can alter pH and allow bacterial growth.
  • "Runover": Improper handling, leading to mixing of chemicals from adjacent pads.

Q: A parameter is positive. What should I do?

A: Do not panic. Note the result and consult your doctor. Provide them with the specific parameter and the color/level it indicated. They will determine the need for further investigation.

Q: How should I store the test strips?

A: Store the canister tightly closed at 4-30℃, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze. Once opened, the strips are stable for up to 3 months. Always replace the cap immediately after removing a strip to protect the remaining strips from humidity and light.

Q: The Nitrite test is negative, but I have UTI symptoms. Could I still have an infection?

A: Yes. A negative Nitrite result does not rule out an infection. Some bacteria do not convert nitrate to nitrite, the urine may not have been in the bladder long enough (less than 4 hours), or high Vitamin C levels can mask the result. The Leukocyte parameter is also a key indicator for infection.
